What age is this program for?

Our program currently offers workshops for three age brackets:

  • Explorers: 1 and 2 years old

  • Pathfinders: 3-6 years old

  • Pioneers: 7-12 years old

How often would my child attend a workshop?

Workshops are once a week; one hour long. ROOTS will run 12wk sessions (Seasonally) and your child will enroll in the full 12wks at a time.

Where are you located?

We are located in Georgetown, Delaware, on Peterkins rd. Our program will be held on our small 3 acre homestead. There may be special events that are offered as “field trips” out into our local community.

How do I sign up for Spring Session or Summer Camps?

If I submit an Application will I automatically be enrolled?

Yes. We have limited space and would like to keep teacher to student ratios down for an optimal learning experience. ROOTS will have Open Enrollment periods to accept new applicants. Enrollment/Acceptance will be based on the order of which applications were received. The enrollment form will tell you all available time slots per age group. (If any are available) A wait list will be implemented as needed.

Tell me more about your Five Pillar Summer Camps!

We will be holding 3 camp sessions, each will be Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm

  • Cooking and Campfires: June 27th-July1st

  • Beauty and Bugs: July 11th-15th

  • Observe and Preserve: July 18th -22nd

Each camp theme will include relevant topics within our 5 pillars:

  • Bushcraft

  • Animal Husbandry

  • Nature Study

  • Regenerative Farming

  • Homesteading

Camps will also incorporate: Art projects, yoga, games, team building activities and more!

Summer camps are for children aged 5-12 years

  • What does one week cost?

    • $395 after February 1st, 2022

My child is unable to attend any of the workshop times. Will the days/times every change?

Our workshop schedule is always subject to shifts and changes. We cater to the season of the year, which means earlier workshops in the winter due to less daylight hours.

How much does it cost?

  • ROOTS Spring 2022 tuition is $240 for the 12 week session, paid in full. Pricing is subject to change. 

Is there a discount to enroll more than one child?

Yes! We offer a 20% sibling discount per additional child you enroll. Promotions exclude sibling discounts.

How long is each workshop?

Each workshop will run for approximately a hour; If we need to extend this time for a special lesson, we would communicate this well in advance.

What does my child need to bring to each workshop?

Please bring a pencil case for each child which should include: Pencil, crayons/colored pencils, scissors, liquid glue, and glue stick. Please have your child wear closed toed shoes and weather appropriate clothing to be outside.  If your child is not potty trained: Please ensure you take your child to use the restroom before class starts, at time of arrival; and ensure your child has a dry diaper before the start of the workshop. Please provide a change of clothes, 2 diapers, wipes, and a diaper changing pad. Please sign the Diaper Changing and Toileting Assist Consent form. 

**Please ensure your child’s name is written on their pencil case, in tags of jackets, gloves, or any other items they will be bringing** Your child will receive a ROOTS tote bag and folder at their first workshop that should come to each workshop with your child. They may use this for collecting things in nature, bringing their creations home, etc.**

Can I stay with my child for the workshop?

Parents of children in the 1-2 year old class are encouraged to stay and participate!

Parents of children 3 and up are not permitted to participate in the workshops. We want to provide a learning environment with the least distractions, and also do not have adequate space in our schoolhouse to accommodate parents. We will send children home with handouts/information on what they are learning so that you can engage with your child!

**Parents are welcomed (but not required) to stay on the property during workshops, either in their vehicles or in a designated outdoor waiting area, weather depending**

Do you offer teen classes?

We currently offer classes for children up to 12 years old. We are working to implement a teen program approx Fall 2022

What should my child wear to workshops?

It would be a good idea to send your child in “play” clothing/clothing that can get dirty/stained/ruined. We will be in nature a lot, working with animals, gardening, arts/crafts, composting, etc.

Do you offer summer camps?

We are currently enrolling for Summer Day Camps! There will be 3 weeks throughout the summer and run Mon-Fri 8:30a-4:30p. You can enroll by filling out our Jotform link listed above. Follow our Facebook page “ROOTS Youth Development Program” or search @roots302 for updates!

Do you offer weekend workshops?

We currently do not offer regular weekend classes, however, we may offer family weekend workshops on special occasions!

What if the weather is bad?

Classes will be held rain or shine! In the event of state-of-emergency status weather (in which we would not be meeting) no refunds will be issued.

How is this program handling COVID-19?

  • As ROOTS is a registered business in the state of Delaware, we are required to follow the mask mandate guidelines. 

  • When there is no mask mandate, masks will be left up to parental discretion for both indoor and outdoor activities. 

  • Most of our lessons will take place outside, but we will be doing projects indoors (and in the instance of inclement weather). We practice handwashing and sanitize shared supplies.

Do you offer scholarships for children?

If you know a child that would love this program but their family cannot afford it, we offer a “Sponsor a Child” program to help as many children gain this experience as we can! Reach out for more information.

** Our goal to become a non-profit program in the future will also enable us to better serve children in many demographics.**

Do you accept children that are NOT potty-trained?

YES! Do you offer Adult/Teen Workshops?

We WILL be offering POP-UP workshops for adults and teens starting in Spring 2022! Stay tuned for more information on this by following our Facebook page!

YES! We are always looking for volunteers to help better our program. Volunteering is a great way for adults to learn about these topics too!

YES! As we expand, we will be inviting other professionals related to ROOTS’ Pillars to come for Guest Speaker Workshops. If you have experience in teaching and knowledge in a “niche” related to our program, please reach out!
