Why Grounded ROOTS Yoga?
Grounded (adjective) ground·ed: mentally and emotionally stable : admirably sensible and realistic : to establish a firm foundation from which to grow.
"As the saying goes, children need two things from us: ROOTS and wings. Children need a protective, loving, and secure environment to grow into healthy adulthood. Only when they have put down ROOTS and become GROUNDED in the earth can they develop wings that will carry them freely through life." -Danielle Bersma
Yoga/Mindful Movement has the potential to help children in so many ways! It can: -improve overall physical and emotional wellbeing -give children tools for emotional regulation/recognition -help reduce stress and anxiety -improve body/spatial awareness -improve focus and self-esteem -help children learn balance, endurance, and flexibility
***Our programs do NOT teach on any spirituality. We focus on teaching tools for mindfulness, calming, and self-awareness through mindful movement.***
Mission: Grounded ROOTS Yoga aims to build a strong foundation for children by increasing self awareness and self-confidence through breathing, movement, and social-emotional learning.
"Social Emotional Learning (SEL) refers to the development of self-awareness, self-control, self-regulation, social skills, and responsible decision making all of which are essential for school and life success."
How is Grounded ROOTS Yoga different than other traditional children's yoga?
A lot of our yoga sessions will take place outdoors, on our family homestead. We also integrate SEL discussions and activities. On our family homestead we have beautiful trees, gardens, animals, and it's quite serene! We believe there is a monumental need to heal the disconnection between the people themselves, and the earth that provides for us- why not start outdoors?! -Spending time in nature can replenish depleted energy -Natural scenery can heighten awareness -The outdoors can further boost meditation’s benefits -Practicing yoga in a new environment can build confidence
